It’s a part of  our lives we  inevitably enter. Some of us with more ease than others, but none-the-less, a confrontation we must directly face head-on.

The death of a loved one, in this case a parent(s) and the sale of a childhood home, filled with the kaleidoscope of good and bad memories spanning years of unrepeatable life transitions. It’s the end of an era.

The “For Sale” sign is speaking loudly in the front yard today.

The 1835 Colonial Farm Home is statuesques in it’s High Road Newbury/Newburyport, Massachusetts stand. Character, charm, and capturing your heart, the walls welcome you to learn more and wonder less how loved these rooms were by Rachel and Fred, when they purchased the property in the 1960’s. 

It’s time now, for a multitude of all very good reasons. Being single with two dogs for one, and I can’t possibly sleep in each of the four bedrooms at the same time, for another. The mere size demands a family needs to be here, and create their own memories inside and out.

It all seems part of the natural process at this point. I helped my parents subsequently leave this world, and now I am called to leave the home they treasured.

It is harder to hold on than to let go.

Working to empty 211 High Road is a miserable task and a pleasurable adventure. Gratitude for the history here is the only way to fuel my heart to continue the effort without deep grief of another loss. Was it Little Orphan Annie who said, “How lucky I am to have had someone I loved so much to cry about losing?”

Bitter Sweet never tasted so good.

And why is “A Little Bit Of Rachel” the FIRST OF IT’S KIND & ONE OF A KIND Vintage Retro Fashion On-Line Boutique?  There is nothing else like it – because it’s all about A Little Bit Of Rachel – and there is only one original Rachel.  Rachel, my mom and best friend, had an eye for fabulous fashion in every era of her life and she enjoyed collecting it and preserving it for that perfect special occasion and event.  As the years went by, her collection grew to the attic (much to my fathers dismay!), which had evolved into a scrap book fashion museum.  Before she passed away of cancer 2005, and on our trips to cancer treatments at Mass General in 2004, we could actually laugh about how much fashion she had shockingly collected over the past 50 plus years, and talk about what would become of it all.  At that point, we both thought mom would live into remission, which was not to be.  So…the collection has been left to me…and now to perhaps you.  The “search and rescue” missions to bring these time pieces from the past to you in the present never seems to end.  Everything has a story attached to it, some I know about, some I can only imagine about.  The project is a blessing in many ways one can not describe in words…it gives me great peace and joy for you to meet Rachel through her special things, and the great example of what a mother, daughter and best friend can truly be through those simple items - and that’s all good…
